The International Institute for Technology & Management
(IITM) is located in Knowledge Village, Dubai's centre for
training and higher education. IITM provides high quality
and affordable Western-style education in the form of training
and tutorials for the University of London’s External
Programme. Students pursue Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree
programmes designed and developed by the London School of
Economics and Political Science (LSE), one of the UK’s
top ten universities, and Lead College of the University of
London External Programme.
Students enroll initially for the Diploma in Economics and,
following success in the Diploma, specialise in their chosen
degree subject: Banking and Finance, Accounting and Finance,
Economics, Economics and Management, Management, Information
Systems and Management, Mathematics and Economics, or Business.
LSE is responsible for syllabus planning, academic content,
setting the examinations and marking examination scripts.
Degrees, marksheets and transcripts are conferred by the University
of London, in association with the London School of Economics
and Political Science.
Transfer Options
The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)
is located in central London, near to the Royal Courts of
Justice. Founded in 1895, by Beatrice and Sidney Webb, the
London School of Economics is renowned worldwide as an important
centre of discussion and debate, counting 13 Nobel Prize winners
and 28 past or present Heads of State among its alumni and
former staff. The LSE is a constituent college of the University
of London and is the Lead College of the University of London
External Programme for the Diploma in Economics and the Bachelors
degrees offered at IITM.
The London School of Economics has accorded the International
Institute for Technology and Management (IITM) permission
to teach the Diploma in Economics. After completing the Diploma,
students may continue studying at IITM to complete their Bachelors
degree, awarded by the University of London in association
with the LSE. LSE faculty prepare the study guides that IITM
students use and set the examination papers. Examinations
are taken at the British Council in Dubai and all examination
scripts are sent to the University of London for marking.
London School of Economics staff visit IITM several times
a year to meet with IITM faculty, students and administrative
staff. Occasionally, IITM students will be invited to attend
seminars given by visiting LSE faculty.
Every year, usually in February, the London School of Economics
has a Study Weekend in London. This offers students the chance
to spend the weekend at the LSE studying courses which will
help them with examination preparation and technique.
The University of London (UOL) is England’s third oldest
university, after Oxford and Cambridge, and was the first
British university to admit women students. The University
of London is a federation of 28 colleges and institutes, of
which the London School of Economics and Political Science
is one. The administrative centre of the University of London
is Senate House, located in Bloomsbury in central London.
Construction of Senate House began in 1932: in 1933 King George
V laid the foundation stone and construction was completed
in 1937. For many years the Queen Mother was Chancellor of
the University of London, retiring in 1981 to be replaced
by Princess Anne (the Princess Royal) who still holds the
position of Chancellor today.
The University of London offered degrees externally at different
colleges in the United Kingdom from 1836. Nowadays, the External
Programme is open to candidates all around the world, providing
they satisfy the university requirements. There are currently
32,000 students studying in over 180 countries for the many
different subjects available on the University of London External
Programme.
The External Programme is mentioned in the University of London’s
Central University Mission Statement:
• to make available, in conjunction with the Colleges,
awards of the University of the highest academic standards
throughout the UK and overseas through the External System
When a student graduates from the University of London External
Programme they receive a degree certificate which states that
the student has studied as an External student and carries
the following extract from the Statutes of the University
of London:
Statute 66(2) states, ‘Candidates granted degrees and
other awards shall have attained the same academic standard
irrespective of mode or place of study or examination’.
There is only one University of London degree and it is awarded
both to students attending in London and to External students
studying elsewhere, such as those studying at IITM, for example.
