Graduation Ceremony 2007 in UK

On March 16^th 2007, some students from our first batch of graduates attended the imposing graduation ceremony in London. Members of IITM management and faculty were also present to cheer them on this momentous day in their lives. The ceremony was held in the impressive Barbican Centre in central London, and around 500 students from most external centres worldwide of the University of London, along with their parents/guardians and friends attended.  At the stroke of 2:30pm, the ceremony began with the ceremonial procession of the representatives of the external system, and members of the university council, which was then followed by that of the Vice Chancellor and Dean of the external system. Once everyone, including graduates and guests were seated in the massive auditorium, the Vice Chancellor, Sir Graeme Davies rose to address the audience. After his speech, came the presentation of graduates to the Vice Chancellor. One by one, the graduates walked down the red carpet on stage to shake hands with the Vice Chancellor and Dean.  Rosemary Gosling, our own much loved Director of the external EMFSS program was there on stage, cheering our students with pride. This was followed by a speech by the Dean of the External System, Prof Jonathan Kydd, where he highlighted the role played by parents/guardians in the accomplishments of the graduates. There was a standing ovation at this point for parents and guardians, and later for the graduates themselves and all present. The ceremony also included a brief musical rendition by the Solomon Ensemble, comprising of former students of the Royal Academy of Music. All in all, it was a very grand graduation ceremony indeed. After the graduation, the fresh graduates poured out into the foyer of the Barbican to unwind over cakes and sandwiches, while chatting with teachers, staff and their near and dear ones.
